Private homes or public spaces – architectural office modulor delivers exceptional designs.

Founded in 1998 by architect Gabriela Fukatsch, modulor’s award-winning minimalist and functional designs are characterised by a clean,
monochrome colour scheme dominated by the colours black and white. “We love working with wood – it’s simply the best material for sustainable building,” stresses the architect. “We also put a lot of emphasis on the visual connection between inside and outside. Architecture should feel airy and free, not oppressive,” says Fukatsch.
Although Fukatsch rightly considers her work to be too varied to be pinned down to a particular ‘signature’ design, three projects will be highlighted.

The first is a single-family home in Košice, which won the ICONIC DESIGN AWARD 2022 and the BIG SEE Architecture Award 2022. Its layout follows the rugged hillside on which it stands, the clear division of daytime and nighttime areas is convincing, as is the living area that opens up to the garden, giving the occupants a sense of spaciousness.

The photo studios in Hrušov, a complex of separate wooden buildings with a simple layout and façades treated using the Yakusugi method, won the
BIG SEE Architecture Award in the Mixed Use 2023 category. The buildings will on display within the scope of the Drevostavby – Wooden Buildings
2024 exhibition in front of the National Theatre in Prague from 19th April to the end of May. This will give interested parties the
opportunity to familiarise themselves with modulor’s sustainable designs.

A current new building project is a detached house in Regelsbrunn near Vienna, which modulor is equipping with solar energy. “In addition,”
adds Fukatsch,“we have fitted the house with an appealing wooden façade that will age naturally and thus generically adapt to its surroundings over time.” modulor also scored high marks with this project, which won the BIG SEE Architecture Award 2023 in the Residential Architecture category.

Working on projects in Slovakia, the Czech Republic and Austria, modulor has regularly won prestigious awards for its sustainable designs. Most
recently, Fukatsch’s designs for a detached house in Martin, Slovakia, won the German Design Award 2024.

And what does the future hold? “We are currently working on several as yet undisclosed projects with an Italian architecture firm from Rome,” says the architect. “But the designs from this collaboration will also speak our minimalist design language. We are looking forward to more (non-)European projects and are open to new cooperations.”
